Neue Online-Vortragsreihe: GMTH International Music Theory Lectures startet am 25. April 2022

Neben vielen Einschränkungen hat die Pandemiezeit auch einige Errungenschaften mit sich gebracht, die in Zukunft weiter produktiv genutzt werden können – etwa die Durchführung von Online-Vorträgen, Webinaren und virtuellen Konferenzen. Die GMTH hat eine internationale Vortragsreihe ins Leben gerufen, bei der etwa drei Mal pro Jahr musiktheoretische Fachvorträge oder Panels mit anschließenden Diskussionen vorgesehen sind. Dabei wird auf Vielfalt der Referent*innen und Themen besonderen Wert gelegt. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos und steht allen Interessierten offen.
Für den Auftakt der Reihe konnte Prof. Dr. Kofi Agawu (Distinguished Professor at the Graduate Center, City University of New York) gewonnen werden. Sein Eröffnungsvortrag am 25. April 2022, 19:30 Uhr MESZ trägt den Titel »Rethinking (American) Music Theory, with African Aid«. Als Moderatorin und Respondentin wird die Vizepräsidentin der GMTH, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sigrun Heinzelmann (Universität Mozarteum Salzburg), beteiligt sein. 

Die Vortragsreihe ist aus einer Initiative der AG Internationales der GMTH hervorgegangen und wird von dieser mit Unterstützung des Vorstands organisiert. Inhaltlich verantwortlich sind Dr. Stephan Schönlau (schoenlau.stephan@gmail.com) und Dr. Wendelin Bitzan (info@wendelinbitzan.de).


New online lecture series: GMTH International Music Theory Lectures to be launched on 25 April 2022

Despite its many restrictions, the time of the pandemic has yielded a number of achievements that may be continued in future – such as the organisation of online lectures, webinars and conferences. The GMTH has launched an international lecture series comprising music theory/analysis papers and panels with subsequent discussions, to be held about three times per year. The organisers are committed to ensuring a diverse array of speakers and topics. Participation is free of charge and open to anyone interested. 

We are proud to announce that the series will be launched with an opening lecture by Prof. Kofi Agawu (Distinguished Professor at The Graduate Center, City University of New York). His talk on 25 April 2022, 7.30 pm CEST is entitled »Rethinking (American) Music Theory, with African Aid«. GMTH vice-president Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sigrun Heinzelmann (Mozarteum University, Salzburg) will act as host and respondent. Anyone interested is invited to register through the application form. 

The lecture series emerged from an initiative of the GMTH working group for
international affairs, which takes care of the organisation of the series, supported by the GMTH board. Responsible members are Dr. Stephan Schönlau (schoenlau.stephan@gmail.com) and Dr. Wendelin Bitzan (info@wendelinbitzan.de).
