Prof. Dr. Florian Edler, geboren 1969 in Kiel, studierte Schulmusik, Geschichte und Musiktheorie in Berlin. 2009 erfolgte die Promotion an der Universität der Künste Berlin. Musiktheorie unterrichtete er 2002‒15 als Lehrbeauftragter und Gastdozent an der UdK Berlin, zusätzliche Lehraufträge führten ihn an die HfK Bremen sowie 2004‒06 an die HfM Franz Liszt in Weimar. 2013‒15 war er Verwalter einer Professur an der Hochschule Osnabrück, 2015 erfolgte die Berufung auf eine Professur für Musiktheorie an der HfK Bremen. Die 2013 veröffentlichte Dissertation befasst sich mit Reflexionen über Kunst und Leben. Musikanschauung im Schumann-Kreis 1834 bis 1847. Weitere Publikationen behandeln Musik und Musiktheorie des 17. bis 20. Jahrhunderts sowie Gehörbildungsmethodik. Den 18. Jahreskongress der Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie (GMTH), der vom 5. bis 7. Oktober 2018 an der HfK Bremen stattfand, leitete Florian Edler gemeinsam mit seinem Kollegen Prof. Andreas Gürsching. Im Vorstand der GMTH wirkte er 2018‒20 als Beisitzer mit und war innerhalb dieses Gremiums zuständig für die Publikationsreihen der Gesellschaft [Zeitschrift der Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie (ZGMTH); GMTH Proceedings]. Darüber hinaus gehört er seit 2019 den Herausgeberteams der ZGMTH und der GMTH Proceedings an und ist seit 2020 Präsident der GMTH.

Uni.-Prof. Dr. Immanuel Ott (*1983) studierte Musiktheorie an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock und unterrichtete im Lehrauftrag an den Musikhochschulen in Rostock, Lübeck, Osnabrück und Münster. Von 2008–2011 promovierte er bei Oliver Korte an der Musikhochschule Lübeck, 2014 erschien seine Dissertation unter dem Titel »Methoden der Kanonkomposition bei Josquin Des Prez und seinen Zeitgenossen« im Olms-Verlag. Von 2011 bis 2015 war er Dozent für Musiktheorie an der Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen, 2015 wurde er zum Professor für Musiktheorie an die Hochschule für Musik Mainz berufen. Seit April 2017 ist er dort Rektor. Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt auf der Rekonstruktion von Kompositionsprozessen speziell der Musik der Renaissance. Seine Kompositionen wurden unter anderem von der Württembergischen Philharmonie Reutlingen und der Norddeutschen Sinfonietta aufgeführt. Von 2016 bis 2020 war er Präsident der Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie (GMTH).

Prof. Dr. Florian Edler, born in Kiel in 1969, studied music education, history, and music theory in Berlin. In 2009 he completed his doctoral studies at the Berlin University of the Arts, where he taught music theory from 2002 to 2015 as a lecturer and visiting instructor. In addition, he held positions as a visiting instructor at the University of the Arts Bremen, and from 2004 to 2006 at the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar. Subsequently, from 2013 to 2015 he held a professorship at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, and in 2015 he was appointed Professor of Music Theory at the University of the Arts Bremen. His dissertation, published in 2013, was entitled Reflections on Art and Life. Music Perspectives in the Schumann Circle, 1834 to 1847 (Reflexionen über Kunst und Leben. Musikanschauung im Schumann-Kreis 1834 bis 1847). Additional publications by Edler address topics of music and music theory in the 17th through the 20th centuries, as well as aural training methodology. Together with his colleague Prof. Andreas Gürsching, Edler chaired the 18th annual congress of the Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie (GMTH), held at the University of the Arts Bremen in October 2018. From 2018 to 2020 Edler assisted in an advisory capacity on the board of the GMTH, where he was responsible for the society’s series publications, Zeitschrift der Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie (ZGMTH) and GMTH Proceedings. Moreover, since 2019 he is a member of the editorial teams of the ZGMTH and the GMTH Proceedings. He has been president of the GMTH since 2020.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Immanuel Ott (*1983) studied music theory at the Rostock University of Music and Drama, and taught as a lecturer at the conservatories in Rostock, Lübeck, Osnabrück, and Münster. From 2008 to 2011 he completed his doctorate under Oliver Korte at the University of Music Lübeck, and in 2014 his dissertation was published by Olms-Verlag under the title "Methoden der Kanonkomposition bei Josquin Des Prez und seinen Zeitgenossen." From 2011 to 2015 he was a lecturer in music theory at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, and in 2015 he was appointed professor of music theory at the Mainz University of Music, where he has served as rector since April, 2017. His research focuses on the reconstruction of compositional processes, particularly in Renaissance music. His compositions have been performed by the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen and the Norddeutsche Sinfonietta, among other ensembles. From 2016 to 2020 he was president of the Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie (GMTH).
